Whether venturing to the far corners of the earth or across town to visit the
in-laws, we are a country of travelers. By planes,
trains, automobiles and boats, we traverse the globe in search of adventure,
relaxation, education or just plain fun.
Travel can also be a harrowing experience, especially for the
unprepared. Safety is of paramount importance. Before
embarking on any adventure, it's good to know what to expect, or at
least have the means to deal with unforeseen difficulties.
The following sites offer helpful advice on travel safety:
- The U.S. State Department Travel Warnings
This government site lists current
warnings about the safety of U.S. travelers in foreign countries as well as
general travel warnings and announcements.
- Center for Disease Control and Prevention
Contains a wealth of information on medical
considerations, from current medical outbreaks to required and recommended vaccines.
The site also offers information concerning safe food and water and
addresses the health concerns of traveling with
children.
- Corporate Safety Travel
Offers a number of safety seminars and travel safety products (training
tapes, security packs, etc.).
- Safe Travel
Provides international travel health kits for purchase.
